Top MML performers in YPSI

U-17

Top overall player: Russell Hope

Top offensive player: Demetrius Miller

Top defensive player: Ryan Schultz

Overview: The U-17 Lakers bounced back after a disappointing weekend in Kalamazoo with two 20+ point wins in their first two games in Ypsilanti. Both games were marked by total team efforts. In fact, no single player scored more than 11 points in either game. An overtime loss to the Windsor Stags and a seven-point setback to Shane Moreland and the U.P.'s Finest closed out a weekend of highly competitive basketball. Russell Hope (Swartz Creek) turned in an excellent all-around performance in Ypsilanti. He made plays on both ends of the floor all weekend long.

U-16

Top overall player: James Johnson

Top offensive player: Demarco Sanders

Top defensive player: Jordan Gorshe

Overview: The U-16 Lakers followed up a forgettable weekend in Kalamazoo with another less-than-inspired effort in Ypsi. With a full roster of players, the Lakers never looked comfortable with the personnel and came away with one victory in three tries. One highlight in a weekend filled with lowlights was the play of James Johnson (Saginaw Heritage). Johnson was the Lakers' most potent scorer when he was in the game and not on the bench in foul trouble. Once Johnson settles in, he is going to be a force down low for the Lakers. He is long and fearless in the paint.
