Top MML performers in K-Zoo

U-17

Top overall player: Kevin Pickens

Top offensive player: Demetrius Miller

Top defensive player: Russell Hope

Overview: The early buzzer-beating loss to ACB set the stage for a rough weekend in K-Zoo. Without the Lakers' top two defensive players, Ryan Schultz and Danny Thwing, the boys in blue lost two games by a combined one point. Kevin Pickens, who didn't have his shot going all weekend, still managed to turn in the top overall performance. Against Common Bond in the first round of the tournament, Pickens had 18 points and six rebounds. In that same game, Demetrius Miller, the Lakers' top offensive player this weekend, scored 17 points on 7-for-11 from the field. Russell Hope was a playmaker on defense all weekend, chopping down passes lanes and drawing charges as only he can.

U-16

Top overall player: Demarco Sanders

Top offensive player: Marquel Ponder

Top defensive player: Darius Wilson

Overview: Demarco Sanders wasn't his best this weekend, but average games for him are still pretty darn good. In the opener against Next Generation, Sanders led six Lakers in double-figures with 20 points. Troy Wright had 18. The trio of Marquel Ponder, Dreylen Hare and Cody Campbell added 17 apiece. Freshman Darius Wilson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. The Flint C-A boys, Ponder and Hare, played very well in all four games. Hare, specifically, showed the single greatest improvement of any player in the program this weekend. He played bigger than his size and is really starting to show some confidence on the floor.
