U-17 Lakers fall at buzzer in silver semis

 

 

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The U-17 Mid-Michigan Lakers, up six points with one minute to go, couldn't hold on against the Michigan Mavericks in the silver semifinals at the Border Battle at the University of Toledo on Sunday afternoon. Despite outstanding performances from Rick Dent (Flint Southwestern), Jordan Gorshe (Fowlerville) and Cody Campbell (Swartz Creek), the Lakers came up a bucket short, 74-72.

 

The Lakers got wins over Courthouse, Shoreline Elite and GR Storm.

 

 

Top weekend performers

 

Jordan Gorshe: MML's man in the middle averaged 15 points with 10 rebounds. Gorshe is coming into his own as a potential dominator in the post.

 

Rick "the real Buckets" Dent: The 6-0 scoring guard averaged 25 points in three games on Sunday including a monster performance against the Shoreline Elite -- 34 points, five rebounds.

 

Cody Campbell: This just in: Cody Campbell isn't a mere 3-point shooter. Campbell was the Lakers most competent ballhandler in Toledo and led the team in assists and, along with Jonah Hatt (Lansing Christian), led in steals.
